Daniel J. Bernard

Dan Bernard grew up in Detroit, attended Eastern Michigan ​University and then the University of Virginia School of Law, where he won the American Jurisprudence Award for Trial Practice. In November 2018, he celebrated 36 years of practicing law. The photo to the right shows him on the "Street of Lawyers" in Venice.

Mr. Bernard is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, the Michigan Defense Trial Counsel, and the Macomb County Bar Association. He is a past chair of the Civil Procedure Committee of the State Bar of Michigan, and is a member of the Labor and Employment and Litigation Sections. Mr. Bernard is a past Co-Chair for the National Association of College and University Attorneys' Employment Law Section. He is a Fellow of the Michigan State Bar Foundation. Mr. Bernard served on the Local Rules Advisory Committee for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, and is a Master of the Bench for the American Inns of Court. He has served as a Circuit Court and District Court mediator and on the mediation panel for the Michigan Court of Appeals.

From 1992-1997, Mr. Bernard was Vice President and General Counsel for Wayne State University, where he was responsible for managing all of the University's legal affairs. He practices in the areas of contract and commercial litigation, labor and employment litigation on behalf of public and private sector clients, public sector law, ERISA litigation, and education law. He is listed in American Lawyer and Corporate Counsel Magazines as a Top-Rated Lawyer in Labor and Employment.

Mr. Bernard resides in Clinton Township, Michigan with his wife, Lynne, and their children, Tori and Alex.
